Transportation systems are responsible for approximately one-third of the greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. economy, and a significant contributor to public health concerns such as asthma, cancer, stress and anxiety. State and federal agencies are actively charting the path to a zero emission transportation system, and private industry has made strides developing technology to achieve this goal. However, individual choice is a critical and difficult-to-engineer component. Eleanor Johnstone, manager of Technical Intelligence at Gladstein, Neandross & Associates (a TRC Company), will discuss the latest trends in personal and commercial transportation and their implications for a healthy, equitable and sustainable society.
Eleanor Johnstone works with vehicle and equipment manufacturers, fuel providers, fleets and public agencies to reduce fleet-based emissions in today’s highly dynamic business and regulatory environment. She received her undergraduate degree in English and American Literature from Middlebury College and her master’s in environmental management from Duke University. Eleanor is based in Southern California and enjoys hiking, cooking, and attending live music performances in venues large and small.
