This course focuses on Humanism in Pop Culture and, over four sessions, asks four central questions;
- What is pop culture, and how does it affect us?
- How have humanists used pop culture to spread humanist values?
- How are humanism and atheism portrayed in pop culture, both positively and negatively?
In responding to each question we will construct a general intellectual framework to help tackle it, and examine specific pop culture products which provide useful examples. Each session, too, will include questions to test your understanding, and tasks in which you are asked to respond to a particular pop culture produce. I hope you will gain a set of intellectual tools to improve your ability to understand pop culture, as well as insight into how humanism, in particular, permeates it.
