Ayanna Watson was born and raised in New York where, as a student at a Christian-based high school, her studies of Christianity ultimately led to her rejection of the Bible. Upon becoming an atheist and recognizing the lack of diversity within the atheist community, she organized Black Atheists of America, Inc. (BAAm).
Debbie Goddard is the outreach director at the Center for Inquiry (CFI) in Amherst, NY. She is also the director of African Americans for Humanism. Before working for CFI, she participated in local freethought groups in the greater Philadelphia region and helped organize and support campus groups internationally as a student volunteer. She has also been involved with progressive issues and LGBT activism.
Bridgett Crutchfield was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and brought up as a Jehovah’s Witness. Realizing in her teens life as a Jehovah’s Witness would not be in her future, she abandoned the organization at the age of 18 and moved to Michigan. Two years later, Bridgett was disfellowshipped (excommunicated) from the Jehovah’s Witness faith. Bridgett is the founder of Minority Atheists of Michigan and the Detroit affiliate of Black Nonbelievers, where she also serves as President.
