Humanism Course I: The Nature of Being

Location: Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago, Illinois

Register as a student-at-large for those seeking a certificate in humanist studies

Enroll in the Master of Arts in Leadership (MALS) Program to earn a master degree with a concentration in humanism (for acceptance in 2020-2021 academic year, you may take course and have credits transfer upon acceptance into program)

Students will receive course syllabus February 17, first day of the Spring Semester, and will participate in monthly conference calls as well as a 5-day intensive Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27 (9am to 5pm each day) on the Meadville Lombard campus in Chicago.

David Breeden began his service as Senior Minister of the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis in August 2013.  He holds an MFA degree from The Iowa Writers’ Workshop, a PhD from the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master of Divinity from Meadville Lombard Theological School.  Prior to joining First Unitarian, Breeden was the first settled minister at the Minnesota Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Bloomington, MN.

David served as the Dean of The Humanist Institute, teaching a number of its foundation courses prior to the organization dissolving and forming the American Humanist Association Center for Education.  He has continued working with the AHA Center for Education as a member of the curriculum committee and as a faculty member of the Humanist Studies Program.

The Humanist Studies Program offers students the chance to become a Certified Humanist Professional at the AHA Center for Education or work towards a Master of Arts in Leadership (MALS) with a concentration in humanism at Meadville Lombard Theological School (MLTS).

 

The Humanist Studies Program includes the following courses:

Humanism Course I: The Nature of Being

Humanism Course II: Knowledge, Justification and Humanist Epistemologies

Humanism Course III: Ethics and Aesthetics

Capstone (required for certificate program candidates only)
